Yitzhak Ben-Zvi (in Hebrew : ) - born in Poltava , Ukraine , on 24 November 1884 and died in Jerusalem on 23 April 1963 ), is the second president of the State of Israel from December 8th 1952 to 23 April 1963. He played a decisive role in the areas of labor, defense and guard the country. He is one of the founders of the movement Poale Zion in the newspaper where he wrote many articles. There is also a researcher, a specialist Tribes of Israel and the community of Samaritans.
In Russia , he created with other Poale Zion movement in reaction to abuses Semitic in 1905 and finally emigrated to Eretz Israel in 1907. Again, Ben-Zvi founded there in collaboration with other pioneer organizations Bar-Giora and Hashomer. In 1915 , he, like other leaders of the Yishuv , expelled from Palestine by the Turks. He then emigrated to the United States , where he is among the founders of the Jewish Brigade , composed of volunteers working on the English side against the Turks and their allies. In 1918 , Ben-Zvi returned to Palestine in the Brigade, and became active in various institutions of the Yishuv. After the death of Chaim Weizmann , first president of the State of Israel, Yitzhak Ben-Zvi was elected in 1952 , instead of the latter position he was reelected in 1957 and 1962.
In his tribute, has created the Institute Yad Ben-Zvi , specializing in research on the Land of Israel and Israeli communities.
