World Alliance Of Reformed

The World Alliance of Reformed (or ARM) was a Christian international bringing together the vast majority of Reformed churches worldwide. Reformed churches being religon Calvinist , from reforms of John Calvin , John Knox and Ulrich Zwingli. It existed since 1970.

It merged in June 2010 in Grand Rapids with the Reformed Ecumenical Council to create the World Communion of Reformed Churches. The premises of its general secretariat located in Geneva , in Switzerland , are now used by the new association.

Before the merger, it brought together 214 churches, 107 countries, representing 75 million faithful.

History

In 1875 , 64 delegates representing 21 churches founded the Alliance of Reformed Churches in the World holding the Presbyterian system in London. In 1877 , the first General Assembly, the Alliance brings together 49 churches that date, mainly in the Anglo-Saxon, with a few churches on the European continent. While trying to march towards the unity of churches, the Alliance can not make a confession of faith common to all the Reformed churches.

In 1893 , she addressed a conference of mission boards of its member churches the issue of disunity among the churches of those cities and countries colonized, she chose to support the young Churches.

In addition to these general meetings, the Alliance holds seminars for women, youth, etc..

With the Basel Declaration in 1951 , it supports the Ecumenism.

Parallel to the efforts of Presbyterians , the congrtionalistes have also gathered themselves globally. In 1891, the first conference held in London. Several meetings will continue until 1948 when a secretariat is being established, and the International Congregational Council becomes truly organized.

In 1950 , the two organizations begin reconciliation talks, and in 1960 , a joint committee is formed.

In 1970 , they decided to merge the Assembly to Nairobi to form the Alliance of Reformed Churches.

Since February 2006 she began discussions with the Reformed Ecumenical Council in order to form a new alliance in the Reformed tradition Member churches
