Baltard Victor, born in Paris on 10 June 1805 and died in Paris on 13 January 1874 , is an architect French who served in Paris under the Second Empire. He is the son of the architect Pierre-Louis Baltard.
Summary |
In 1833 , he won the Prix de Rome prepared the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1834 to 1838 he lived in Rome as a guest at the Villa Medici. The Academy of France in Rome is then edited by Dominique Ingres. From 1849 , he became architect of the city of Paris. There is also an architect for the diocesan bishop's palace and the seminary , but this post is withdrawn in 1854 because the administration considers cults it attaches too little importance to its work.
It is particularly famous for Les Halles in Paris that he produced between 1852 and 1872. These were demolished in 1972 - 73 with the exception of one of the pavilions (the " Pavilion Baltard ") which has been classified a historical monument and was back to Nogent-sur-Marne. He is the restoration of various churches. He is also the author of two graves , that of composer Louis James Alfred Lefebure-Wely at the Pere Lachaise cemetery and that the jurist Lon Louis Rostand in Montmartre cemetery.
On 9 February 1863 , he joined the Academy of Fine Arts where he held the 4th chair.

- Construction of the courthouse in Lyons in 1847, today seat of the Court of Appeal of Lyon and the Assize Court of the Rhone.

- The 12 pavilions of Les Halles in Paris (1852-1872) (the Pavilion Baltard No. 8 was increased to Nogent-sur-Marne )

- Construction of the Church of St. Augustine (1860-1871)
- Facade of Notre-Dame des Blancs-Coats : it comes from the Church of St. Elois des Barnabites which was then located in the Ile de la Cit , which was destroyed during the work of Haussmann and reassembled in 1863 by Baltard.
Renovations
- Restoration of the church Saint-Germain l'Auxerrois , in collaboration with Jean-Baptiste Lassus from 1838 to 1855.
- Restoration of the church of Saint-Eustache in 1844.
- Restoration of the church of Saint-Etienne-du-Mont : it directs the construction of the chapel of catechisms and restore the facade of the church between 1861 and 1868.
- Restoration of the church of Saint-Germain-des-Pres.
- Restoration of the church of St. Severin.
- Restoration of the church of Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis : the architect primarily responsible for redeveloping the choir and the rehabilitation of the facade.
