Conrart Valentin, born in Paris in 1603 where he died on 23 September 1675 , is a writer French. Proponent of the French Academy , he was elected permanent secretary in 1635.
Summary |
From a family Calvinist Valenciennes, Valentin Conrart having been educated to enter the trade, began her studies too late to learn the ancient languages and applied himself to the Italian, Spanish and knowledge of French. In 1627 , he acquired an office secretary to advise the King and his finances, and began to invite him to men of letters.
Friend of John Chaplain and Guez de Balzac , is his home that meets men of letters that will form the nucleus of the future French Academy: Antoine Godeau , Jean Ogier de Gombauld , Philippe Habert , Claude Malleville , Francois Le Metel of Boisrobert , Jean Saint-Sorlin Desmarest , Nicolas Faret , Paul Pelisson. These meetings have inspired literary Richelieu , whose ideas take on a character of grandeur, the project created the French Academy. Conrart stands in the letters patent and shall draft the regulations in 1635. This is the first secretary and, despite his unwavering commitment to the Protestant religion, Richelieu maintained in that position until his death.
He has a strong influence on the first wave of major French translations, made by Giry , of Ablancourt , Patru and we appellere later "the beautiful infidels." He collaborates with Vaugelas the final text of the translation of Quintus Curtius. With Chaplain, plays an important role in debates in the Academy on the Cid (Sentiments of the Academy on the Cid).
He has published in his lifetime no notable writing and this has made to write Nicolas Boileau : I imitate the prudent silence of Conrart (Epistle first).
