The University of Uppsala (in Swedish , is a university located in State of Uppsala in Sweden. Founded in 1477 , it is the oldest university in Scandinavia.

History
Faculties
Originally, only four schools existed: theology , law , medicine and philosophy (which at the time meant mostly the sciences).
But with time, others have been created: Arts , Education , Languages , Pharmacy , Science and Technology , Social Sciences.
There are nine campuses of the University of Uppsala and has sections on each campus.
University Library
The university library has about 5.25 million books and periodicals (131,293 meters of shelves), 61,959 manuscripts, 7,133 music scores, and 345,734 maps and other graphics. The reserves of the collection of manuscripts and music manuscripts including the home of the Bible Gothic ( Codex argenteus ) and the oldest manuscript of the Edda of Snorri (Codex upsaliensis).
The most remarkable building of the university library is the Carolina Rediviva , which includes the largest of the 19 sections of the library.
Hospital
Uppsala Academic Hospital (Akademiska Sjukhuset or Swedish) is a hospital dedicated to education for the medical school and nursing school. It is managed by the County Council in cooperation with Uppsala University. In 2003 , 7,719 people were employed by the hospital with 1 079 places in 2004.
Founded in 1302 , the hospital is older than the university and later merged with the University. This hospital has served for 400 years until the great fire of 1702 that destroyed much of the city. A new hospital was created, but was moved outside the city in 1811.
