The decisive event occurred a few years later (in 1954) when France decided to attach to its participation in the CERN development of its own research in nuclear physics. Irne Joliot-Curie proposed the creation of the Institute of Physics Nuclear Orsay and work began in 1955. She died in 1956, and that Frederick was the first director of the Institute. At the same time, be built the Linear Accelerator Laboratory (LAL). Student associations are of several types: tutoring PACES , medicine and pharmacy corporations, clubs at engineering school Polytech'Paris-South ... Some components, such as pharmaceuticals and life sciences are particularly well developed because of space left to them: Alley associations Chatenay-Malabry for pharmaceuticals and building 334 to Orsay for science. The latter associations are grouped into a federation of associations history, FASECO (Federation of Student Campus d'Orsay), which holds regular events such as the Telethon. To mark the 40th anniversary year of the university in 2011, FASECO extends federation with university aims to bring together associations of other campuses, and was renamed FAZ '.
