The University of Western Brittany (official name: University of Brest History To cope with increasing student numbers in a row Baby Boom , The development of new university campuses in Britain is becoming a necessity from the late 1950's. the University of Rennes , then only university in the region, opens in Brest several appendices. Two colleges responsible for qualifying opens in 1959 and 1960 , the first and second scientific literature. They were joined in 1966 by a medical school, and 1967 by an Institute of Municipal Law. The embryo of a new university, while traditionally structured into 4 faculties ( Law , Literature , Medicine and Science ), is well established. These components are joined in 1968 by the Technical University of Brest and in 1970 by the Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Quimper , depending also of the University of Rennes . The events of May 1968 require the establishment of new universities by the Act Faure. The University of Rennes , which served as a guardian of the components of Brest is divided into two universities: the University of Rennes 1 and Universit de Haute Bretagne. The University of Brest has been established by ministerial decree on 27 March 1969. Its statutes were approved by ministerial decree on 4 November 1970. It was erected in a public scientific and cultural, by Decree No. 70-1174 of 17 December 1970 , effective January 1, 1971 . She took the name of the University of Western Brittany. The university continues its development in 1972 opening a UER of law and economics. In 1973 , the Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Quimper opens a branch in Lorient a first Department of Health and Safety. This was followed in 1975 by a second Department of Thermal Engineering and Energy which ends at the same time to create a new right of IUT, the Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Lorient. In 1978 , a faculty of dentistry is created. In 1989 , open the Euro-Institute of Actuarial Jean Dieudonn. The university plays a role in the creation of the 4th Breton University, the University of South Brittany. To cope with the increasing number of students in the late 1980s , opening a new university is planned. The IMC planning endows the 4 October 1990 the site Lorient-Vannes status Pole University Development (PUD) . Several components are thus open 1990 to 1993 in Lorient and Vannes. A portion of the die opening is made by two other universities Brittany, Rennes 1 and Rennes 2. The work focuses on the UBO website Lorient. The IUT already present since 1973 is enriched with a new Department of Organization and Management of production in 1992. He followed the next year by opening an IUP Industrial systems engineering. Science lessons are introduced with in 1990 opening a DEUG science , a reference is identical DEUG open valves in the same year raised it by the University of Rennes 1 . When this new university finally opened in 1995 , all the components open to Lorient and Vannes and its legacy. The site of Quimper , including the transfer of authority is considered a time, remains in the bosom of the UBO. The university continues to develop. The European University Institute of the Sea (IUEM) was opened in 1997 , followed by an Institute of Business Administration , the IAE Brest in 2001. A sports channel is created during the same period. A DEUG STAPS is opened in 1996 to discharge the University of Rennes 2 , up there alone Breton University to offer this course. In 2000 , this led to the creation of a Dept. of STAPS. The university has access to the autonomy on 1 January 2010 . The components of UBO are the following: The University of Western Brittany moved in September 2010 a total of 30 mentions of license , The general license is issued in several areas that are available and then mentions specialties. It is proposed in the university a license "arts-letters-language" which has three entries, one license "law, economics, management" which has five endorsements, license and social sciences which has seven words, one license "Science technical and physical activity "which has two entries, and a license 'science, technology, health" with 13 mentions. In their evaluations AERES, six of those listed have received the rating of A + or A, 16 B notation, notation and eight C , . In addition, the university offers education from 26 entries from professional licenses . Similarly, the master shall be issued in several areas that are available then entries in specialties and then possibly in route. It is proposed in this university a Masters in Science and Technology "with 11 mentions and 20 specialties , a master "life sciences, health and ecology" with a reference and 12 specialties , a Masters in social sciences "with 12 specialties and 40 . Service provided by the University Continuing Education and Lifelong Learning, UBO offers continuing education for 3500 students per year, and 1400 enrolled in diploma courses . The university is involved in exchange programs such general that Erasmus or CREPUQ , and is also linked to foreign universities by bilateral agreements. Foreign students represent, with approximately 1,200 members, 7% of the student population at the university. Students from China , with 27%, followed by Morocco with 15%, are the two largest communities. The IUEM, IAE and UFR science and technology together contribute nearly half of these students . For 2008-2009, and with 1.05% of its students from an exchange Erasmus , the university appears to the 35th of French university for this population . Outgoing exchanges involve about 210 students per year . Four research areas: * Marine Science Axis Axis held in the OSU-IUEM. It brings together eight laboratories, including 6 associated with the CNRS, IFREMER 3 to 2 to the IRD. This theme develops training with Master SML (Marine Sciences and Coastal) and graduate school MDHS (Graduate College of Marine Sciences). * Agro-Axis Health - The health sector is organized within the IBRB (Brest Institute of Health Research in Biology) with the IFR Scinbios. It brings together six laboratories including 2 associated with INSERM. This axis is associated with STS masters and doctoral SICMA. -Agro-food has 2 laboratories recognized at the departmental level. * Math-STIC-Axis Material This area organized with the ISSTB (Institut Suprieur des Sciences et Technologies de Brest). It brings together nine laboratories, including 4 associated with the CNRS, one at Telecom Bretagne, one by one to ENSIETA and UBS. The training is organized within the framework of STS Masters and doctoral SICMA * Axis Humanities and Social Sciences This axis is organized within the research federation ISHS (Institut des Sciences de l'Homme and the Company), recognized by the department.
