The University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) is a university French recently established in the department of Yvelines and since 2002 in the Hauts-de-Seine.

It has about 17,300 students and employs 1,400 people including 950 teachers. 1200 participants each year enrich teaching.

The subjects taught are the sciences, humanities and social, legal and political sciences, engineering, technology and medicine. The university is also a pioneer in teaching the interaction between economics, ethics, environment and development.

Its living and associative cultural dynamics and the quality of teaching contributes to the reputation of the institution. Its new library, completed in June 2002, covers an area of 8400 square meters and has over 100,000 books.

To boost its international visibility and consolidate its research facilities and teaching UVSQ is one of the founding members, with the University of Paris XI and the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan 's research center and higher education , NEAR UniverSud Paris.

History

History of the University

• 22 July 1991 : Establishment of the University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) from two offshore centers of the University of Paris VI and Paris X
• 1996 : UVSQ now has structures and forums.
• 2001 : creation of the IUT of Mantes-la-Jolie , former annex of the IUT Velizy
• 2002 : Opening of the Professional University Institute (IUP) arts, sciences, culture and media, affiliated with the Faculty of Science
• 2002 : membership of the Medical Faculty of Paris-Ouest UVSQ (formerly affiliated with Paris V ), renamed "Paris-Ile de France-Ouest" (IPOD)
• 2006 : creation of the CFA Alembert in Guyancourt
• 2007 : removal of the Medical Faculty of Paris Ile de France Ouest (IPOD) in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
• 2010 : The UVSQ reorganizes UFR SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities). The UFR SSH disappears to make way for four new faculties and institutes:

-Cultural Studies Institute (IEC)

-Higher Institute of Management (ISM)

-Institute of Languages and International Studies (ILEI)

UVSQ houses several units of training and research

• Science :

Located in Versailles and the Chesapeake , she began receiving training in biology , earth science and the universe , physics , chemistry , mathematics , computer science and the Graduate Institute professionalized , IUP ASCM (art, science, culture and media).

• Social Sciences :

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines , UFR des Sciences Sociales host formations of economy , of economic and social administration , social and geographical sciences.

• Law and Science Policy (CSP):

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, she welcomes the training in law ( public law , private law , legal history ) and political science through 15 masters, four areas of research and Judicial Studies Institute.

• Faculty of Medicine Paris Ile de France Ouest (IPOD)

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

• Institute of Languages and International Studies, ILEI

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the Institute's fundamental mission is the development of research and training, dissemination and use of knowledge and expertise in the field of languages , of cultures and studies international.

• Institute for Cultural Studies (IEC)

• Higher Institute of Management (ISM)

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, she welcomes the training in management science , information science, communication , science education

• Observatory of Sciences of the Universe UVSQ (OVSQ)

Located in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, she welcomes the training in environmental sciences, systems sciences and human sciences. The university is noted for its strong involvement in sustainable development.

The School of Engineering - ISTY

Founded in 1992, the Institute of Science and Technology of Yvelines (ISTY) is an engineering school that offers degrees in engineering specialized skills by Securities Commission Engineer (CTI).

The apprentice training center - CFA Alembert

The CFA Alembert was created in 2006 by UVSQ and Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Versailles Val d'Oise-Yvelines (VCCI). It is located in Guyancourt , common urban community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

Research Institute

• The architect Michael Rmon is currently on the ground of a former farm Troux of Guyancourt , the Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace : Institute for Research in Environmental Science Global. The Institute is under the authority of the climatologist Jean Jouzel , winner of the Nobel Prize 2007 in the framework of the IPCC, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Michel Rmon reuses some of the old farm buildings including the mansion and has a new building on three floors housing the laboratories and researchers. This site will host the central management of the institute and a laboratory (LATMOS). The overall project cost is 29 million euros for a piece of equipment floor space of 8950 sqm. So in March 2009, 250-300 researchers and engineers will study the science of the universe a few hundred meters from UFR IPOD (medicine) and SSH (Social Sciences and Humanities) .

IPSL has 6 laboratories which only 3 are under partial guardianship of the UVSQ:

• CETP: Centre for the Study of Terrestrial and Planetary Environments
• SA: Service Aeronomy
• LSCE: Laboratory for Climate and Environment

Service Aeronomy and partially CETP merged January 1, 2009 to give LATMOS (Lab, Atmospheres, Media, Observations Spatiales). The Trust will LATMOS UVSQ.
