It forms about 11 000 students in the fields of humanities and law, science and technology sector.

Summary

History

First offshoring university

Capital of the County and the Duchy of Savoy from 1295 to 1563 at the height of the States of Savoy (from Bresse in Vaud , in Nice in Piedmont ), Chambry does not handle any academic institution in contrast to the new capital Turin obtains from a university in 1405 ( University of Turin ). At best, she obtained as part of a "prep school" that prepare students Savoy before leaving for Turin.

The annexation in 1860, sees the meeting of the former duchy of Savoy to France's abolition of the Graduate Institute preparing the law , the medicine , the theology , the pharmacy , the geometry , the physics and mechanics. But the imperial decree of 24 October 1860 . The only prospect of higher education is the decree of 18 February 1861 which replaces the Technical School by a Sardinian Preparatory School to Higher Education Science and Letters, and a School of Practical Science.

The modern university

It was not until the creation process of universities in the 1960s for the Savoy obtain a College Science University (CSU), then a University College Literary (CLU) in 1963. The merger of these two colleges form 9 May 1969 , the Centre Universitaire de Savoie (CUS) to Chambery (Decree No. 69-728 of 18 July 1969 ). Finally, the city of Annecy and especially lots of Annecy-le-Vieux host an IUT and IAE. In addition, the site of Annecy-le-Vieux is hosting a training institute by alternation (TETRA) and a School of Engineering ( Polytech'Savoie former engineer cole Suprieure d'Annecy, ESIA).

The choice of the designation of "University of Savoie" can not choose and does not oppose the towns of Chambery and Annecy.

On July 16, 2010, University of Savoy became a founding member of the NEAR University of Grenoble .

Student Life

Since 1992, the University of Savoie leads through Campus music partnership with the Caisse des Depots et Consignations and the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie. Campus music allows privileged access to students of classical music thanks to the arrival on the various campuses of the University of musicians at concerts of orchestral or chamber music.
