Although it has ancient roots, the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne is in its present form for less than thirty years.

The first university

First Cathedral School, one of the largest in Europe during the Middle Ages, University of Reims was born in 1548, thanks to the intervention of Cardinal de Lorraine had given him his office by the papacy. Closed in 1793 during the French Revolution, she experienced a near total eclipse for a century and a half, only to reappear in the sixties.

The modern university

The Faculty of Sciences (1961), the University College Literary (1964), the University College of Law and Economics (1966), Institut Universitaire de Technologie de Reims (1966), Joint Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy ( 1967), the National School of Dental Surgery (1970) are the successive elements from which the University of Reims was formed in 1971. The creation of an IUT at Troyes (1973), an Institute of Higher Technical Education (1985) and a Department of IUT (1995) in Charleville-Mezieres , the development Troyes an antenna relocated Faculties Law, Economics and Literature of Reims (1991) and the opening of an IUT department in Chalons-en-Champagne (1993) now say the roots of a regional university that has become, in 1982, ' University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne.

  • 1549 : actual opening of the University.
  • 1609 : Aggregation of the Jesuit college at the University of Reims.
  • 1793 : abolition of the university by decree of the Convention.
  • 1808 : creation of a school of medicine and pharmacy and a faculty of letters (abolished in 1815).
  • 1 956 / one thousand nine hundred fifty-seven : Reims creation of the "Graduate School of Science" as part of the University of Paris.
  • 1958 : Establishment of a "University Center" associated with the University of Nancy (and therefore subordinate to it).
  • 1959 : creation of the Faculty of Reims (effective opening in 1961).
  • 1961 : Creation of the Academy of Reims.
  • 1963 : installation of the Faculty of Sciences Campus du Moulin de la Housse.

  • 1964 : Transformation of this study center on "literary College University" (attached to the Faculty of Letters of Nancy).
  • 1966 :
    • creation of the "University College of Law and Economics."
    • creation of the IUT de Reims.
    • creation of the "Joint Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy."
  • 1967 : legal birth on 1 January, the University of Reims, placed under the authority of the Rector of the Academy.
  • 1968 :
    • establishment of the Faculty of Law and Economics.
    • establishment of the Faculty of Humanities.
    • Act of Nov. 12 creating the "public scientific and cultural development." The schools lose their autonomy in favor of the University. Election of the President at its head. The Rector is elected Chancellor of the University.
    • creation of the "IUT de Reims-Troyes.
  • 1969 : under the 1968 law, schools are becoming "EBU" (units of instruction and research).
  • 1970 :

    • Reims creation of "National School of Dentistry, transformed in the same year EBU dentistry.
    • creation of the Red Cross website.
  • 1971 :
    • division of the Joint Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in a medical EBU and EBU pharmacy.
    • election of first President of the University.
  • 1973 : IUT de Troyes IUT becomes full.
  • 1982 : University of Reims changes its name: it became "University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, to mark its regional roots.
  • 1984 : Act of 26 January on higher education (law "Savary"). The "EBU" turn into "UFR" (Units Training and Research).
  • 1985 : division of the EBU of law and economic science in a Faculty of Law and Political Science and Faculty of Economics and Management.
  • 1986 :
    • entry into law enforcement Savary.
    • current statutes of the University.
    • creation of the IFTS , Charleville-Mezieres.
  • 1989 : creation of ESIEC (Graduate School of Engineering in Packaging and Packaging).
  • 1990 : Creation of the antenna attached to Troyes University Faculty of Letters, Law and Economics of Reims.
  • 1994 : creation of the first department of the IUT de Reims Chalons-sur-Marne.
  • 1995 : creation of a department of the IUT Reims to Charleville-Mezieres.
  • 1996 : creation of IPAG Reims.
  • 1998 : Creation of the Faculty STAPS.
  • 1999 : Celebrating the 450th anniversary of the University.
  • 2006 : creation of a new chain of Social Sciences and name change became a Faculty Faculty of Economics, Social and Management.
  • 2007 : Integration of IUFM Champagne-Ardenne.
