History

Split of the University of Paris

Main article: University of Paris and Faure Act.

Universit Paris Sorbonne-Paris IV was born as a result of the reform of the university prepared by Edgar Faure in 1968. On that date, the University of Paris , divided into five faculties, was split into several interdisciplinary universities. Some, including the University of Paris IV, Sorbonne retained the name of the center and local history at the University of Paris, essentially hitherto vested in the faculties of Humanities and Sciences. The university was founded by the Decree of 23 December 1970 , confirmed by Decree of 17 July 1984

Creating the University

Teachers are free to distribute as they wished, many met at first by their political color, especially against the events of May 1968. Paris IV regrouped and especially the teachers 'right' as opposed to Paris I , which was marked "Left". This explains the ongoing bickering between the two universities and their scientific orientation divergent. To take the example of social history, Paris IV and distinguished himself by a historiography according to the theories of Roland Mousnier always a distance and scored against the Marxist analysis of Boris Porchnev , honor to Paris I.

Despite the renewal of generations of teachers and students of Paris IV has kept a reputation for "law school" that the hardness of the spring 2009 strikes in the university has not dented. Since October 2009, it tries to train with Paris II , and also Paris VI , a PRES. The package was called " Sorbonne University " after lengthy negotiations due to the fear of other universities in Paris to see the name of the Sorbonne "confiscated" by the ESRP. The three founders have filed its articles at the beginning of 2010 and the ESRP has been recognized by Ministerial Decree 22 June 2010 as a foundation for scientific cooperation.

Implementation

Teaching is divided between several geographical centers:

In general, and like other universities in Paris, Paris IV suffers from serious real estate problems highlighted by the report Larrouturou : obsolescence, lack of space, crumbling surfaces, aberrant implantation torn between central Paris and its suburbs. In addition, the campaign to restore the Grand Palais , in the years 1990 and 2000, private university of the vast areas occupied by the center while Slavic and Germanic and one of his canteens. The campaign to restore the Sorbonne , which should last from 2010 to 2015, will further exacerbate the problem because it deprives the temporary establishment of its main auditorium and a large portion of its rooms, while the very nature of construction (the upgrading of the building) will consume a portion of the final surfaces, especially to overhaul the evacuation plan. During the presentation of the work of the library of the Sorbonne, in March 2010, the Conservatives have thus estimated that between 10 and 25% of the capacity of the stores would be sacrificed to protect against fire.
