History
Offshoring university
The opening of the university dates back to 1977 , but the history goes back a decade ago to collect the fruits of this construction. In 1965 , the decision is made to initiate a college literary edge of the city of Le Mans. This college will be an annex of the University of Caen , where decisions are taken jointly by the university leaders with officials of the city of Le Mans. Hill Vaurouz is chosen to host the new study center. The proximity of several kilometers with the hospital suggests the possibility of one day opening a hospital. In 1966 , the buildings of NAILS ( Centre for University and local schools ) are built. Houses and a restaurant are the only services offered. A year later, it is the IUT of business management, business administration and chemistry that open. In 1968 , the IUT is reinforced with two sections: engineering, mechanical engineering and manufacturing. University cities continue to be created. Le Mans is the smallest university Schedule of France with its 1,600 students. A year later, in 1969 , the city of Le Mans gets full independence vis--vis the University of Caen. The University of Le Mans is over schedule, but full-fledged academic center.
In 1975 , we opened two new Faculty : Law and Letters. The city tries to overcome "the flight of gray matter, which operates the city on the region. Young Manceaux thus tend to look to the universities of Rennes , Angers , Tours or Nantes , at the sight of the little graduate achievable at Le Mans. The city wants to urbanize its site, a project that could take 20 to 30 years, bringing it closer to the western end of town, then symbolized by the hospital.
Creating the University
The birth of the University of Maine is really in 1977 when the Minister announced the university's official recognition as a university site of Le Mans. A final Faculty of Sciences was created, bringing the number of students in 3000. Leaders are aware that the campus should grow, given the great universities nearby. We begin to see that several generations of students will call the "turbo-teachers" who come directly from the capital every day to teach at the university. They are surprised to see a Faculty, with a natural setting, away from the stereotype of the French faculties arranged in the center of town. In 1985 , there was a large increase in enrollment. All Faculties have a big drawback, however, this campus is too far from downtown, and in the evening, there is a desert campus, relatively scary. In 1987 , the capacity is overwhelmed by 6,000 students and lecture halls are no longer sufficient to accommodate all these people. The State does nothing when it seems obvious that UHC will not open forever. A nursing school was opened, but since 1966 and the opening of the University Hospital of Angers, the usefulness is obvious. With two university hospital in the region, construction of a third is not even considered. The Urban Community of Le Mans takes things in hand. Given the refusal of the state to provide additional resources, the MUC use its funds to expand the West Campus. The amphitheater Robert Garnier Dept. of Human and Letters is almost entirely subsidized by the city itself. But this does not solve the problems of places in the "lecture halls". While waiting to find the necessary funds, the city commandeers the Convention Center to deliver courses to make the most important and most requested. In 1989 , the Technology Park opened its doors near the West Campus. In 1990 , the means are given to the university to build three new buildings. Rather than sprawl, especially the leaders choose the expansion of facilities already constructed. Restructuring will cost the campaign a total of 9 million francs at the time. The CUEPE opens its new premises when the city will invest 63 million francs by 2000.
Expansion
In 1992 , it is an impulse that is given to the campus Mans. Indeed, the European Institute of careers in music decided to move the center of the technology park, close to the university. The institute not only to welcome students from all over France, but caters mainly to European students for training and rarely recognized. The same year, the FTTC: Technology Transfer Centre of Le Mans opens its doors. The link between science park and university is well done. In 1993 , ISMANS, Institut Suprieur des Matriaux du Mans moved on campus. Two lecture, eight laboratories and twelve classrooms are dedicated to him. New student housing are created. In 1994 , is the opening of the university professional who creates the event, while partnerships with companies already established side by side. Two new buildings are needed in Letters and Rights. The House of the university is also out of the ground. It allows for better coordination on campus. The street design is reviewed, it enlarges the Faculty of Science with 21 million francs, fully supported by the CMU. That same year, the IUP micro-computer-electronics diverse cultural offerings. In 1995, we see that many cars, too many on campus. It was decided to construct special lanes for public transport. 3-4 lines at the time serving the university and they are kinds of "Busway" that are emerging on the campuses Letters Law. This allows the bus not to be embarrassed by the many cars are often parked in places that are not their intended. In 1997 , for twenty years on campus, the Graduate School and surveyors surveyors comes to settle at Le Mans. In 1998 , two events occur. First, the ENSIM, Ecole Nationale Suprieure d'Ingnieurs du Mans is the growing pretensions of the campus of Le Mans. The years 1997 to 1999 marked the heyday of the West Campus Manceau. They are approximately 11 000 students who were counted on the entire campus and the university is full of training. We decided to build a library on two floors Central University where can come and see the different UFR. It abandons the premises of the old BU scattered various UFR into classrooms or BI, libraries and institutes, sharper than the BU Central. In 2000, the project of Le Mans tramway connects the campus to downtown in minutes south of Le Mans in 25 minutes. In 2002 , the Technology takes a different form because pharmaceutical companies are expanding and gaining ground on the south end of campus. Between 2003 and 2006 , the facilities are numerous, and the bet has been 30 years earlier, linking the university to the city is won. Many services are built in the image of an ice rink (Ice City), a skate park ... Still, enrollment has weakened compared to the heyday of 1997. Today the university is close to 10,000 students, but does not affect them. However, buildings emerge and west, the campus uses a large expansion with the creation of a new neighborhood and new dormitories. Parking on three floors, a large retail space are under construction. Besides the town of Laval , annexes were opened in the city of Le Mans with the neighborhood "Campus Technology" south of the town, and some students must travel to tours, south of Le Mans for their mechanical training. In September 2007, the Higher Institute for Business Engineering Le Mans (ISIALM) will open its doors. Finally in 2009, the university is a founding member of the NEAR Nantes Angers Le Mans University.
