University Charles de Gaulle - Lille 3 ( Lille - Nord - France ) is one of three universities in Lille. She specializes in Humanities, Arts and Letters. She is a member of the PRES Universit Lille Nord de France. It comes from the old Arts Faculty of the University of Lille , heiress of the University of Douai founded in 1559.
It is mainly located in the town of Villeneuve d'Ascq , including the campus, she served in full after the departure of the Faculty of Law in 1995, near Pont de Bois. The university has also appendices to Roubaix and Tourcoing. Schedules of Roubaix concern the Dept. of Applied Foreign Languages and the Department (which has the value of school) "Infocom", former IUP, and now a center of excellence in information sciences and communication.

- 1562 : Inauguration of the University of Douai , 30 km from Lille , authorized by a bull of Pope Paul IV, 31 July 1559 comprising faculties of theology, canon law, civil law, medicine and arts
- 1793 : Decree of the National Convention of 15 September 1793, Article 3 ordering the removal of colleges and faculties
- 1808 : Decree of 17 March 1808 on the Imperial University and creation of a faculty of letters at Douai, opened on May 1,1810
- 1815 : Order of the Board of Education of 31 October 1815 confirmed the order of the king of 18 January 1816 , removing the faculties of arts and sciences, including those of Douai
- 1854 : Act of June 14, 1854, decree of 22 August 1854 reinstating the Arts Faculty of Douai
- 1887 : Decree of October 22, 1887 transferring the Arts Faculty of Douai in Lille
- 1896 : Act of July 10, 1896 transforming the "body of faculty" in universities (establishment of the University of Lille )
- 1971 : Subdivision of the University of Lille in three autonomous entities, following the Faure Law of 12 November 1968. The Faculty of Letters University of Lille becomes Charles de Gaulle Lille 3
- 1974 : Transfer on the campus of Villeneuve d'Ascq , near Pont de Bois.
The Faculty of Arts
University of Lille III has its roots in the university founded in Douai in 1559 and its Faculty of Arts. It disappears during the French Revolution.
Faculty of Letters
The Faculty of Letters of Douai knows that a brief revival under the First Empire between 1808 and 1815. The year 1854 was marked by the resurrection effective from a faculty of Letters expands back to Douai. After heated debates, the power is transferred to Lille in 1887 and includes premises located near the Rue Gauthier de Chatillon (Angellier current street). The buildings of the faculties of law and letters were opened in May 1895. The University of Lille oversees all public schools in Lille in 1896.
