The University of La Rochelle (ULR) is a French university multidisciplinary 7,000 students. Founded in 1993 , its campus is located in the district Minimes in La Rochelle. She is a member of NEAR Limousin Poitou-Charentes and acceded to the "enlarged powers" (applications LRU ) in January 2009.

The university specializes in the problems of the environment coastline.

History

Creation

University teaching at La Rochelle began with the opening of an Institute of Technology in 1968 and a branch of the law faculty of Poitiers in 1974. In the 1980s , the city began a policy of infrastructure development and training in the early 1990s , launching the University Plan 2000 provides the opportunity to La Rochelle to become a university city . In November 1990 has published a regional pattern of land use and development of higher education, which concluded on the need to establish a second university in Poitou-Charentes , a proposal was considered favorably by the Interministerial Committee for Regional Planning in 1991 . On 12 January 1992 , a team was commissioned by the Ministry of Education for the establishment of the University of La Rochelle .

The cornerstone of the university is symbolically laid the 22 May 1992 by Franois Mitterrand , Helmut Kohl , Michel Crpeau , Franois Blaizot and Jean-Pierre Raffarin . The decree establishing the university was promulgated on 20 January 1993 Development

On 25 June 1993 , Yves Pimont appointed provisional administrator of the university by decree. The university is under exceptional status to the law of 1984 until May 1998 , when the first University president is elected, Christian Eskenazi. At the start of 1998, the university gets the status of common law .

On 1January 2009 , the University of La Rochelle is one of the top twenty universities made independent of the law on the freedoms and responsibilities of universities.

History of Presidents

Gerard Blanchard, ecologist and teacher training in ULR since 1998 , is president of the university since 21 April 2008. He follows Christian Eskenazi (1998-2003) and Michel Pouyllau (2003-2008) .

Components

Units Training and Research

The university is structured into three training units and research and a university institute of technology .

  • The Faculty of Law, Science Policy and Management at the University is divided into two departments: the Department of Law, Science Policy and Management and the Institute of Management , .
  • The Faculty of Humanities, Languages, Arts and Humanities (FLLASH) is composed of three divisions: Humanities and Social Sciences, Applied Foreign Languages, Literature, professional courses, a University Centre of French as a Foreign Language, a University Institute Asia Pacific two research units .
  • The Faculty of Basic Sciences and Engineering Sciences

Graduate Schools

The University of La Rochelle organizes its doctoral programs through five graduate schools, graduate school site and four co-accredited graduate schools .

Common Service documentation

Adjacent to the library-Michel Crepeau , the service manages the documentation of common policy document of the university. Founded in 1993 , the university library offers the public a multidisciplinary documentation for teaching and research in Law, Management, Humanities and Social Sciences, History, Geography, Humanities, Languages, Science and Technology . The building of 6200 m has 950 workstations and includes 100,000 printed books, 2000 electronic books, 1,000 audiovisual materials, 1,100 magazines on paper, 16 000 journals and 30 electronic databases .

At the start of 2008 , the University of La Rochelle offers 5 OTC , 14 general licenses , 14 professional degrees , 24 Masters , 8 university degrees . It also prepares the USDA , with support from the administration (Center for preparation of competitive examinations), to contest the judicial careers (Institute of Advanced Legal Studies) and some assistance from the education .

Research

The University of La Rochelle's research focuses on issues of environment and the coastline . The research activities of the university are particularly recognized in the field of environment and sustainable development , as well as that of the computer and mathematics .

It contains ten research laboratories and five doctoral programs and a subsidiary dedicated to enhancing its research activities (RLU Valor SAS).
