The University of Erfurt is a university located in Erfurt in Germany. Founded in 1392 , is the third university in the country by its importance.
In 1502 , Martin Luther is a graduate of the University of Erfurt.
In 1816 , when the city of Erfurt became part of Prussia , the university was closed.
In 1993 , after the reunification of Germany , the parliament of Thuringia voted to restore the University of Erfurt. On 1 January 1994 , reopening is official.
Peter Glotz , an influential member of the SPD , oversaw the opening of the university and became its first rector.
In 2001 , the high school teacher of Erfurt was incorporated into the university. This establishment was founded in 1969 by the consolidation of educational institutes opened in 1953 in Erfurt and Mhlhausen , and formed since 1990 schoolmasters.
On 1 January 2003 , following the faculties of Economics, Social Sciences, Pedagogy and the Law, another option is to supplement the lessons with panel installation at the Faculty of Roman Catholic theology, formerly Centre philosophy and theology in Erfurt (Philosophisch-Theologisches Studium Erfurt).
For the school year in 2007 - 2008 , there were 4500 students enrolled.
