The University of Bordeaux was founded in 1441 by a bull of Pope Eugene IV . It was then abolished in 1793, like all universities, by the Convention. The university system was restored with the creation of the University of France by Napoleon in 1808. The law school is established in 1870 and the University of Bordeaux is reconstituted in 1896 .

The Law School moved up Pey-Berland in 1873 and then in Pessac in 1967 .

The events of May 1968 necessitate the evolution of French universities will be conducted with the Act Faure.

Bordeaux and Bordeaux-I-IV

University Bordeaux-I was established in 1971 following the division into three of the University of Bordeaux. It consisted then Science, Technology, Law and Social and Political Sciences. Sectors "science" and "right" are still a separate operation . The university had 24,257 students in 1994-95 .

In 1995, the University of Bordeaux IV is created . The founding meeting of June 22, 1995 Interim wished to pay tribute to Montesquieu by adopting his name .

In 2007 Bordeaux IV is founding member of the " University of Bordeaux. "

Presidency

The university is headed by Yannick Lung, Professor of Economics .

Structure

Pursuant to Education Code , which sets the legal organization of public universities in France, Bordeaux IV consists of several components. You can find one hand units training and research (UFR) and secondly the 'institutes and schools ":

Campus

Most of the university is located in the academic field of Gradignan Talence Pessac (near line B of the tramway: Montesquieu and Montaigne stations UNITEC). Since 2006 the training of management science, PSI and departments Tech Co GEA and the IUT are the largest university of management sciences from Bordeaux (near line A tram station: Botanical Garden).

The university has an office in Agen with backgrounds in law and in economic and social administration and Department of Legal Studies and Economic located on the university campus of Perigueux.
