The University Joseph Fourier (UJF often appointed or, more formerly, University Grenoble-I) is a university in science, technology and health, and with headquarters in Grenoble in France. UJF is historically in line with the Faculty of Science based in Grenoble in 1811 by Joseph Fourier , from which it was created in 1970
It forms each year nearly 20,000 students including many international students. University involved in basic research as applied, it benefits from the presence in the Grenoble area of many large research institutions ( CEA , CNRS , INPG , ILL , ESRF ...) forming the first all French scientist outside the Paris region.
The university is comprised of different components: DLST (or Science and Technology Department License) that manages the license of the same name, UFR which include teachers and researchers by specialty and graduate schools, some of which are common to the INPG and the UJF and the IUT 1 which includes the 1st and 2nd year of DUT.
University Joseph Fourier has most of its buildings on the main campus of Grenoble, located in Saint-Martin d'Heres. Some buildings, however, are close to downtown or to Grenoble La Tronche , near the University Hospital (Medicine and Pharmacy). She also has a branch in Valencia : University Center Drme - Ardche , in Savoy and L'Isle-d'Abeau (some branches of the IUT 1) School of Physics Les Houches , which organizes each year in January to October training sessions in Physics for PhD students and researchers, and since 1899 the botanical garden Lautaret.
