The University Jean Moulin Lyon 3 is one of the three universities of Lyon in France.

Summary

History

History of the University

The central building of the University Jean Moulin on the quay of the Rhone.

University Lyon 3 was born in the early 1970s, division teachers from Lyon-II , following the events of May 1968 that shook the academic world. In 1974 , the university was formally established (see Lyon II for the history of the division). There are also departments of geography , planning, engineering of the rural (IER) in Annecy and history, and a faculty of philosophy with more than 90 doctoral students . The elements of the radical right has pushed the split occupy important positions: Andr Decocq is "dean" of the EBU of Law (1974-1976), Jean Haudry is "dean" of the EBU Letters (1974-1976 ), Jacques Goudet is the head of the Institute of Languages (1974-1978) and was elected Vice-Chairman teacher . Second Vice-President is David Gerard , a member of the Independent Republicans . But the EBU philosophy is headed until 1987 by Franois Dagognet , and the Institute of Business Administration (IAE) by Andre Varinard (future president ) .

The University also opposes what it calls the "politicization" in 1975, Chairman Henry Roland and refuses to propose to the University Council of Students belonging to the lists yet the majority, rather than left, preferring students called apolitical classified right, for example belonging to the Corpo law . The report Rousso said this:

"The majority unions in student elections, in particular the UNEF , never got a vice-presidents, as is usual in other universities, the privilege of going to unions or organizations classified right, and largely subject to the directives of top management teams. "

Located downtown, Lyon III draws a number of students, particularly because of his teaching of specific pathways (management) or various rare languages: in 1974, it has 6737 students, in 1979, 10,014 in 1984 , 13 022 by 1989, 14,670 by 1990, 15 186, in 1993, 17 034 . In October 1978 she hosts the Centre for Analysis and automatic processing of the Bible and written traditions ( katabatic ), directed by Grard Weil , who then scramble with Jacques Goudet, elected president of the university in 1979 . The University is so politically heterogeneous, despite its origins .

Goudet established in June 1981 the Institute of Indo-European studies , which aims to foster the emergence in the teaching of rare languages, but also part of a situation related to movement of the New Right , there is a Home ( Pierre Vial , Jean Varenne , who teaches Sanskrit, or Jacques Marlaud , who became professor in 1987 for example) . Goudet management (1979-1987, beyond the statutory 5 years ) has been controversial, the report Rousso (2001) calls it "a blend of professionalism and cronyism that has marked Lyon III" .

At the Savary law , enacted in 1983 by the Socialist government, students of Lyon-III take strike , partially supported by management . The situation remains relatively calm, despite pressure from the GUD , the President decides the administrative closure of the university . In 1987, students came to talk about the conscientious objection are attacked .

If his numbers tripled in 20 years, the proportion of its teachers remains the same from 175 to 314 between 1973 and 1989 . According to the report Rousso (2004), this "factor may explain why the university has taken every opportunity available to them in terms of positions, sometimes at the expense of competence, objectivity or neutrality of teachers recruited. " . Well integrated into the landscape university in the 1990s, when it counts "22 research teams, importance and reputation very uneven. "

Between 1993 and 1998, the university moved into the building of the Manufacture of tobacco , instead of its site at La Doua becomes exclusively occupied by the University Lyon I. Also in 1994, the Palace of the research is built on the corner of Shepherd Street and deer, which host more than a dozen research center, the school of notaries and a large part of the teachings of 3 rd cycle .

Because of the extreme-right political orientation of some of its teachers, the university has been accused for years 1980 to 2000 to get complacent with regard to theses, anti-Semitic and racist. It is the Institute of Indo-European, which includes less than a half-dozen researchers, who focused much criticism , the rest being covered by opaque and undemocratic practices of governance. The report on racism and Holocaust denial at the University Jean Moulin Lyon 3 , prepared under the direction of Henry Rousso at the request of the Minister of Education, Jack Lang , and released in October 2004, showed that the number of teachers involved was small, about a dozen, but had undermined the credibility of the institution as it has not reacted to the behavior of some of its teachers.

In 2006, the University is one of the few in France not to be blocked during the movement-related CPE. A referendum is established by the administration on the issue of blocking. This was rejected by 82.42% of voters who voted favorably 17.58% , all courses were held.

In late August 2007, the Board of Governors of the University elects a new President, Hughes Fulchiron. The majority of which he comes is a "sacred union" under the banner Jean Moulin Revival to break with the practices of previous presidencies and create a spirit of openness and dialogue. It was confirmed in March 2008. Since then, it tends to be closer to former supporters of Gilles Guyot against which the "sacred union" had been forged.

Unlike schools such as Lyon Lyon-I or-II, the locations of Lyon 3 campuses are not in the proper sense of the word, they are indeed only reserved for the defense establishments of course, without any infrastructure for housing students in particular.
