Union
A union is an association of individuals or companies for the defense or management of common interests.
The term has many meanings but more commonly it refers to organizations that defend the interests of employees (workers, employees or managers), often referred to by the initials "OS" (unions) and protected by special legislation ( Freedom of Association , right to strike ...) results from a long history. Labor organizations and business corporations are prohibited by the Le Chapelier law enacted June 14, 1791, labor unions are legalized in France until the Waldeck-Rousseau Law of 21 March 1884. The creation of trade unions in France is codified in Articles L 2131-1 to L 2131-6 of the Labour Code.
The word refers to different meanings:
- Professional union - or cross. The trade unions are often organized by industry and / or grouped by region and federation level departmental, regional and national levels. We distinguish:
- labor unions ;
- syndicates ;
- Unions professions whose agricultural unions.
- Student union and college student.
- Condominium (a condominium management) and also union association of subdivision (a housing estate management) governed by special regulations,
- Municipal union as an association for the sharing of common interests within a community (eg: Syndicat d'Initiative )
- Syndicat intercommunal communal pooling of resources (water management, solid waste, transit ...).
- Syndicat d'initiative. In France and Switzerland, Union initiative for tourism development (the former name of current tourist office at the local level). In other countries it may have a different purpose (eg protection of local interests)
- Syndicate , a group of banks responsible for placing funds on the financial market.
The unions are present in all countries, with varying degrees of constitutional liberty (see International Labour Organization ).
- The term is also used sometimes to designate the Mafia , and we speak of Tomorrow (see the article on the Prohibition ).
