The UN General Assembly is one of six principal organs of the UN. It has a consultative role in matters relating to the maintenance of peace and international security.

The Assembly's role is primarily advisory, unlike the Security Council which has powers mainly executives.
A State (Member and Non-UN) General Assembly may take on matters relating to the maintenance of peace or international security. Its findings are only recommendations, ultimately it is the Security Council to decide.
It also has the role of appointing the Secretary General of the UN (on the recommendation of the Security Council), the non-permanent members of the Security Council, those of the Economic and Social Council , the Trusteeship Council (which meets more since the independence of the latter country under trusteeship in 1994) and also those of the International Court of Justice and the Council for Human Rights.
It has authority over the UN budget , the distribution of contributions between the Member States and the entry of new members of the Organization.
Composition
It is composed of five representatives from each state member. Each member has one vote, so as to create a level playing field for all Member States.
It is also composed of a Bureau, which is composed Regular sessions There, once a year, a regular session which begins on the third Tuesday of September. The sessions usually end by mid-December. Each session begins with the election by a simple majority of individual officers. As the number of questions for each session is important (more than a hundred), they are usually referred to the Main Committees of which there are six: That issues are addressed in plenary or the Main Committees, voting is always done in plenary. It usually takes place at the end of the regular session. If a question can not wait until the beginning of a regular session, the Assembly may meet in extraordinary session if a simple majority of Member States or the Security Council so desires. On matters related to peace, international security, admission of new members and budgets, decisions are taken by two-thirds majority. All other decisions are taken by simple majority.
