The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a self-administered jurisdiction of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine , canonically attached to the Patriarchate of Moscow and All Russia. The head of the Church carries the title of Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine, with residence in Kiev Lavra Caves (incumbent: His Beatitude Volodymyr (Sabodan) History The Ukrainian Orthodox Church is the inheritor of the former Ukrainian Exarchate of the Patriarchate of Moscow. She received her new name in January 1990. Later that year she was recognized self-administered, while still canonically subjected to the Moscow Patriarchate. The local synod called for his recognition as a church autocephalous after independence in 1991. This request was rejected by the Synod of the Church of Russia and Metropolitan Filaret was tabled.
