Summary

Relations with the Roman Catholic Church

A dialogue between the TAC and Rome has been operating since early 1990. October 5, 2007, TAC has requested a connection to the Roman Catholic Church on the principle of a communion, full and sacramental . This request was made welcomed by the Holy See in October 2009 , with the publication of the Apostolic Constitution Anglicanorum Ctibus which facilitates the opening communion between Rome and the Anglican groups . The Rev. John Hepworth, Primate of the Traditional Anglican Communion (TAC) reacted very positively to the announcement of the Roman Apostolic Constitution: "The night I heard the Pope's decision, I called the bishops of the forty four countries where we operate and we wept with joy ... (...) On behalf of the 400,000 faithful of the TAC, I would say our gratitude to the Pope! We prayed and fasted that day comes ... "

On March 10, 2010, leaders of the Anglican Church in America, one of the churches TAC members, led by Archbishop Louis Falk, said seeking the establishment of an effective ordinariate . Two days later, leaders of the Anglican Church of Canada to formulate a similar request .

In a press release dated December 4, 2010, the Primate of the TAC, John Hepworth, describes the situation on the eve of training ordinariates in different countries. It lists the applications for admission into these ordinariates by clerics seeking to join the Roman Catholic Church:

  • the three bishops of the TAC in Canada have made this request and 33 priests follow;
  • 51 TAC priests in the United States seek to join a ordinariate;
  • creating a ordinariate recently announced in Australia .
