The town of Toulon-sur-Allier is situated in the department of Allier , south of Moulins , on the right bank of the Allier , one of the last wild rivers in Europe. The town lies at the crossroads of two major roads: the RN 2007 (old N7 ) and CEAR (Route Centre Europe Atlantique). On the west is a landscape of plains, the Val d'Allier, which is located in a nature reserve (natural reserve of the Val d'Allier), and is a landscape of farmland. Toulon is located at the edge of the Bocage Bourbonnais , west, and the Sologne Bourbonnais , east.
History
Toulon-sur-Allier was a major production site of Gallo-Roman pottery. Several seasons of excavations carried out from the nineteenth century on the location of the studio potters Gallo-Romans of Toulon-sur-Allier unearthed a large number of pottery and figurines of white earth. These figures are visible in the museum Anne de Beaujeu in Moulins.
During the French Revolution , the town became known as the Mont-Law.
