History and tradition
You can find the name of Timon in the Acts of the Apostles (6:5).
- Search among you, brethren, seven men of good repute, full of the spirit and wisdom, and we appointed for the office ..... The proposal pleased the whole assembly, and they chose Stephen , a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, Philip , Prochorus , Nicanor , Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas , a proselyte of Antioch.
Timon is one of the first seven deacons ordained by the Apostles in the early days of Christianity.
Tradition adds that he taught at Berea and died a martyr at Corinth : the Jews and Greeks had thrown him into the flames, but he received the least damage and would have finally been attached to a cross to completed his martyrdom.
