The Blue Ball
The Ball Blue (The Blue Marble) is a photograph of the famous Earth taken on 7 December 1972 by the crew of at a distance of about 45,000 km. This is one of the most popular photos in the world. This image is one of the few that show a fully lit Earth, the astronauts had the Sun behind them when they took the photo. They were so named because, for them, the Earth looked like this picture a ball of glass child.

"View of Earth taken by the crew of Apollo 17 during their trip to the moon. You can see the Mediterranean Sea to the ice cap of Antarctica. This is the first time that the trajectory of an Apollo mission to photograph the icy South Pole. Note the high cloud cover in the southern hemisphere. Almost the entire coastline of Africa is visible. The Arabian Peninsula can be seen above the north-eastern Africa, Asia beyond the horizon, and the island of Madagascar in the east. "
