The Tarn is a department French crossed by the eponymous river. The INSEE and the Post ascribe code 81.
Summary |
The department was created in the French Revolution , on 4 March 1790 under the Law of 22 December 1789 , from part of the province of Languedoc. The department was formed from the dioceses of Albi, Castres and Lavaur.
Under the Act of 28 Pluvise V, the departments of Herault and Tarn have traded Angls Township (formerly part of the diocese of Saint-Pons) and the Canton of Saint-Gervais-sur-Mare ( which was part of the Diocese of Castres).
Geography
The Tarn is in the region Midi-Pyrenees. It borders the departments of Aveyron , in the Hrault , in the Aude , in the Haute-Garonne and Tarn-et-Garonne. The main river is the Tarn. While the Tarn valley forms a plain, the center of the department is hilly. The south consists of a solid rock: the Black Mountains.
