The Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, also called the Mormon Tabernacle, is a building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints , located on the Place of the Temple ( Temple Square ) to Salt Lake City , capital of Utah. Until the early twentieth century, the date of completion of the conference center that's had held the biannual General Conference of the Church. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings and performs there regularly. The room can accommodate about 5,000 people.
The construction of the Tabernacle was started in 1864 and was completed in 1867. It was designed so that a speaker could be heard by each participant at a time when amplifiers and speakers did not exist. With its 11,623 pipes the Mormon Tabernacle organ is among the 20 largest in the world.
