Muhammad bin Jarir Tabari or bin Yazid al-Imam Abu Ja `far al-Tabari (Arabic: ) was born in 839 in Tabaristan in Iran, which earned him his nickname al-Tabari. It is one of the earliest and most famous historians ^{His works}

Tabari has written books concerning almost all aspects of Muslim life: history, commentary Qur'an ( tafsir , "exegesis"), a collection of hadiths , comments of law ( fiqh ). He was also interested in taking advantage of the medical knowledge to prescribe remedies for his friends and students.

His best known works and largest are:

the Chronicles of Tabari, history of prophets and kings ;
the Jami `al-bayan` an al-Qur'n ta'wll Ay , better known as the Tafsir At-Tabari, was published in 896 and 930. This tafsir was to become a work of such well known and one of the earliest. It would have been much longer than 3000 printed pages present and he said that a copy is in Afghanistan. Authors such as Suyuti , Baghawi or Ibn Kathir have drawn inspiration for their writing Tafsiri ;
