Synod Of Alba Iulia
The synod was convened in 1698 at the initiative of Metropolitan Atanasie Anghel of Alba Iulia to discuss the recognition by the Romanians in Transylvania the authority of the Pope of Rome.
On 7 October 1698 the Synod adopted the following wording: "We Vladica, proto-priests and priests of the Romanian church to give everyone know that our own will we join the Church of Rome and recognize members this holy Church of Rome. The act of union was signed by the entire synod and strengthened with the seal of the Metropolis of Blgrad (Alba Iulia).
This was the beginning of the Romanian Church United with Rome.
