By 1869, there is a community located in an apartment at 15 rue Louis-Philippe. Chairman, Godchaux Oulry, a native of Lorraine, succeeded in raising the funds necessary to build a synagogue. The architect is Emile Uhlmann Prix de Rome , which chooses a style neo-Byzantine. The opening may take place in 1878.

The first rabbi of Neuilly in 1888, is Simon Debr , the father of Professor Robert Debr and the grandfather of the Prime Minister of General de Gaulle , Michel Debre.

The community grows until the Second World War and its expansion in 1937 was entrusted to architects Germain Debre and Hirsch.

As with all Jewish communities, the war was disastrous. Rabbi Robert Meyers and his wife Suzanne Bauer was born in 1943 were deported to Auschwitz. A plaque outside the synagogue commemorates the deportation of all Jews neuillens and another, the courageous action of the Righteous Among the Nations of Neuilly. Rue Edouard Nortier, another plaque commemorating the names of 17 children aged 3 to 11 years, housed in a former clinic run by the Sisters, July 25, 1944 rounded up, deported and murdered by the Nazis .

The rebirth after the war is difficult. We must mention the efforts of Rabbi David Feuerwerker (he was the rabbi from 1946 to 1948) to create a study circle and a circle of young people. His successor, Eduard Gurevich, saw the arrival in 1962 in repatriates from Algeria that bring vitality to the community.

In 1975, the Grand Rabbi Jerome Cahen and his wife revived the community event, turning resolutely towards youth. The number of believers is increasing dramatically.

In 1978, the centenary of the synagogue is celebrated in the presence of the authorities and former Prime Minister Michel Debre.

Rabbi Alexis Blum succeeds Jerome Cahen, who died in 1988.

After the founding in 1999 the University founded by European Jewish Rabbi Rene-Samuel Sirat and Rabbi Claude Sultan at 11, rue Ancelle cultural center Jerome Cahen is created in the adjacent building of the synagogue in 2004.

In 2009, Rabbi Michael Azoulay, a member of the National Ethics Advisory Committee since 2008, succeeds Rabbi Alexis Blum.
