Sunnah
The term sunnah (in Arabic : ) means "path" or "practice (s)". The meaning Sunni This term is generally "prophetic tradition".
According to the sunna hadith includes all the teaching of the Prophet in particular:
- his statements;
- his actions;
- its explicit or implicit approval;
- his personal moral qualities (according to some scholars of hadith as Bukhari and Muslim );
- its disapproval;
- its abandonment of certain acts.
Sunnah, the second source of Islamic legislation, coupled with legislative rules of the Koran which is the primary source of law, to define Islamic law or Sharia. So the Sunnah explains the Qur'an and which must be read through it (ie the Qur'an introduces the prayer, but it is in the Sunnah that it is the way to prayer).
In the Quran, the sunna word appears in Sura 33 verse 62. The sunnah is deemed to belong only to Allah: Such is the Sunna of Allah with which they lived and you will not find other souna Allah for an exchange.
Unlike the Qur'an, the Sunnah is considered a sacred book , but rather as a guide to behavior.

Science of the Sunnah
Sciences are related to the sunna biographers Muhammad and the collection and explanation of Hadith. They include:
- the biography of the Prophet of Islam;
- the sayings, deeds, moral and personal qualities of Muhammad;
- chronicles the events in which Muhammad took part (battles, exile, meetings, etc..) and their contextualization;
- sources of hadith (the chain of people who reported the tradition) as well as opinions and biographies of people who reported these hadiths;
- knowledge of hadith and repeal repealed;
- knowledge of hadith which pose problems of understanding;
- knowledge of hadith unsubstantiated.
The sciences were Sunnah of Sciences encyclopedists that required rigorous, both in the collection of hadiths, but also in search of authenticity that accompanied the collection.
The books of Hadith are still studied today not only by specialists in Islamic law, but also by Muslims anxious to learn, especially spiritual life of Muhammad.
Extended meanings of the word in the Sunni
In some contexts, the term sunnah is:
- supererogatory religious practices (not mandatory), such as prayer or fasting, outside the context of the five pillars ;
- Islamic law itself.
Example of use of the term "sunnah" so scope:
- use siwak (small wooden stick that is rubbed on the teeth) is considered a sunnah, in the sense of a meritorious act, but not mandatory;
- The hadith "Whoever hates my Sunnah is not mine," Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, here is the meaning of "religion" (the meaning of this hadith is: who turns away from the Sunnah is not part good Muslims).
