A sofer ( Heb. ) is, in the traditional sense, a scribe , that is to say an expert in calligraphy Hebrew, following precise rules of traditional writing, both in relation to the form of letters that writing tools. In modern Hebrew , it is referred Sofer sta "m ( ") to differentiate it from the writer , also known sofer. Sta "m is an acronym for Sifrei (Torah) , tefillin or Mezuzot , as these documents, holders of holiness must necessarily be written by a sofer in the state of the art in order to be valid.
