Shalosh Regalim

Three Festival Pilgrimage , better known as the Shalosh Regalim are three major festivals of Judaism , during which the Israelites living in the Kingdom of Israel and the Kingdom of Judah were to make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem , as their prescribed the Torah. In Jerusalem , they took part in festivities and ritual worship in conjunction with the services of Kohanim ("priests") to the Temple of Jerusalem. These three festivals are:

  1. Pesach ("the Passover ")
  2. Shavuot (the " Pentecost "), and
  3. Sukkot (" Tabernacles ").

After the destruction of the Second Temple , the pilgrimage ceased to be an obligation, and no longer stood on a national scale. In the offices synagogue , the passages relating to the Festival are observed read aloud in a Sefer Torah on the bimah ("altar"), and mark the point. During the Jewish holidays in the current Israel , many Jews living in or near Jerusalem make an effort to attend prayer services at the Western Wall , in order to "emulate" the old pilgrimage to the extent of their means.
