The Seven Words of Jesus on the Cross are a series of short sentences spoken by Jesus when he was crucified, just before his death. They are from the four Gospels and led to the development of a spirituality of the cross which found expression in many witty comments. Their exact chronology can be established. 3. Woman, behold your son. To John: Behold your mother ( John 19:26-27) addressed to his mother and John. Beyond the filial duty thus completed, the tradition has seen this as the spiritual motherhood of Mary vis--vis the believers represented by the "disciple whom he loved."
