Second Epistle Of Peter
The Second Epistle of Peter is a book of the New Testament.
It is sent by Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ (1:1).
Dating
Some scholars representing modern critics consider it the writing of the later New Testament. Schlosser and Brown offer such dating from around 130. (J. Schlosser, "The Second Epistle of Peter", in: Introduction to the New Testament, under Dir. Marguerat D., Geneva, Labor et Fides, 2001, RE Brown, What is known of the New Testament, Paris, Bayard , 2000).
The reasons are the parallels between chapters 2 and 3 and the Epistle of Jude (the text is almost identical, the main difference being the absence of quotations from books Apocrypha of the Old Testament , which leads these scholars to date the Second Epistle of Peter after the event they consider the time of fixing the Jewish canon of the Old Testament Jamnia ), the fact that the letters of Paul are made in gathering and considered Scripture (2P 3, 15s ), the evocation of the disappearance of the first generation of Christians (2P 3, 2 and 3.4 b). Furthermore, Clement of Rome and Irenaeus of Lyons know only one Epistle of Peter.
The more traditional position is held by other scholars and date the letter in the 60s. It was for her the text and evidence of the ancient Church (see the very detailed study of AD Baum, Pseudepigrapha und im frhen Christentum literarische Flschung, WUNT 2 / 138, Tbingen, Mohr Siebeck, 2001). The author would then Peter, possibly through a secretary. (You can find these positions eg. In the New International Version Study Bible, or in A. Kuen, Introduction to the New Testament, Volume 3: The General Epistles, St. Lgier, Editions Emmaus, 1996, or in English: DA Carson / DJ Moo / Morris L., An Introduction to the New Testament, Zondervan, 2005)
