Schole Palate
The insignia of a magister Officiorum of the Eastern Empire, visible in the Notitia Dignitatum : the title of the office on a display, shields with the emblems of Scholae palatin units, and an assortment of weapons and armor showing the supervision of the imperial arsenals.
The scholae palatinae form the new Imperial Guard of the Roman Empire late.
History
After his victory over the usurper Maxentius at the Battle of Milvian Bridge on 28 October 312 , Constantine I disbanded the Praetorian Guard who supported his opponent.
Nevertheless, the new emperor of the western part of the empire they miss caused by the disappearance of the corps, which is why he decided to create five scholes palate under the command of the master of the offices.
Each unit consists of 500 riders, mostly recruited among the Germans.
