The Samaritan is a store located on the banks of the Seine in the 1st district of Paris , currently closed for development work in safety. The Samaritan was the Parisian department store in the largest sales area with 48,000 m 2, just ahead of the Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. Its advertising slogan , supported by a significant advertising campaign in the 1960s, remained in the collective memory of Parisians: "We find it the Samaritan."

The store was founded in 1869 by Ernest Cognacq , a native of the Ile de Re , and later Marie-Louise Jay , his wife, former first saleswoman radius costumes Bon Marche. Ernest Cognacq began by selling neckties in an umbrella on the Pont-Neuf, and had heard a little cafe he frequented street Mint Annex room to retrieve his little used and make a small business .

Prey to the deficit since the 1990's , the store sees its reduced surface. On 13 February 1997 , the Social Chamber of the Court of Cassation dismissed an appeal of the magazine, which disputes must reinstate an employee following the cancellation of the social plan that led to his dismissal. Until then, the judges felt that the "Aubry law" of 27 January 1993 did not imply that the cancellation of a plan by social justice cancels redundancies .

The Samaritan woman was bought in 2001 by group LVMH had previously acquired the Bon Marche. On 15 June 2005 , officially due to compliance of the building to modern standards of safety for six years, but finally, for reasons of restructuring , as thought the unions , the store is closed for an extended period.

The Samaritan was the name of a pump to water located on the Pont Neuf , whose existence dates back to Henry who asked John Fleming plans to Lintlar. This was the first machine built lift water in Paris. It was rebuilt by Robert de Cotte between 1712 and 1719 , then renovated by Soufflot and Gabriel. This pump was decorated with a representation of the episode evoking the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at Jacob's Well (recounted in the Gospel of John ) and carved by Bernard Frmin Ren (1672-1744). The whole was surmounted by a clock with a manikin , and later a bell .

A project is presented in June 2008 by LVMH for the redevelopment of the site with offices, shops, a hotel and some housing for a planned opening in 2013.

In an interview published in Le Parisien , 5 July 2009 , Anne Hidalgo said that the project will be discussed at the next Council of Paris. It seems certain, according to the chosen Paris as LVMH built, facing the Seine, a prestigious hotel in 2013 and delivered to the rear side rue de Rivoli, there will be social housing, a nursery and shops. Anne Hidalgo believes that this project will create 2,200 jobs.

The restructuring plans of the Samaritan woman are finally defined. The structure will reopen its doors in 2013 and will house retail space, offices, a hotel, crche and public housing .

LVMH announced in November 2010 taking total control of the former Parisian department store. To transform the building into a hotel overlooking the Seine, shops, offices, public housing and a nursery, the filing of a building permit is expected in 2011, all for an amount of work of the 400 million euros. The work should last at least two years and be assigned the Japanese agency SANAA .
