Salonin
Publius Licinius Cornelius Saloninus, French Salonin (c. 242-summer 260), was a Roman emperor.
Son of Gallienus and Cornelia Salonina he was in power associated with the title of Caesar , while his father was Augustus with his father Valerian (which prefigures the Tetrarchy ). He joined his father in Gallien Gaul , to establish its political presence. Gallien had to leave hurriedly after the announcement of the death of his eldest son Valerian II , left 256 on the Danube with him also the title of Caesar, following the theft of Ingenuus in Pannonia. Gallienus defeated him quickly. He had, however, remain long away to fight against the barbarians, until the Alemanni he defeated near Milan in the spring 260. Salonin remained on the Rhine with his tutor and adviser Silvanus and General (governor of a province?) Posthumus.
After the news of the defeat and capture of Valerian by the Persians in the summer of 260 , Posthumus defeated the barbarians but quarreled over the question of the loot that Salonin Silvanus and would not let the troops. He besieged them in Cologne with the army that made up his mind. Gallien occupied against the Alemanni could not intervene. To try to regain the loyalty of the troops, Salonin was proclaimed Augustus on coins, but the city fell. The two men were murdered and Posthumus establishes his " Gallic empire ".
