St. George is a district located in the 5th district of the city of Lyon ( France ) whose name is given by the patronage of the parish church. Set within the perimeter saved entered in the World Heritage by UNESCO , it is one of the three parishes of Old Lyon , the historic heart of Lyon , with those of St. John and St. Paul.

Among its notable buildings we find the Church of St. George , many alleyways and many interesting buildings, among others located on Rue Saint-Georges, the Deanery and Quarantine.

Status of district

  • St. George Street, the heart of the neighborhood is an extension of the street who just Tramassac St. John. She has four sights of interest:
    • The 'sun house' dating from the seventeenth century, bearing the family crest Barou of the Sun with a courtyard and elliptical faade, statues of the Virgin and St. Peter.
    • A little later at No. 7 with beautiful windows called 'twin'.
    • A spiral staircase in a turret at No. 12.
    • At No. 62, a spiral staircase in a lovely courtyard.

History

Prehistory:

Middle Ages and Renaissance

The foundation of the monastery of Sainte-Eulalie, marking the revival of the neighborhood. Local Life

The association of St. George Dragons leads the neighborhood for many years. It organizes various events including the Carnival of Saint George, meals area, a garage sale and many other cultural events and festivals.
