Rudolf Bultmann ( 20 August 1884 - 30 July 1976 ) was a theologian German tradition Lutheran. Son of a German Lutheran pastor, he studied at Tubingen , Berlin and Marburg before himself becoming Professor of New Testament at Marburg. It is in this university that marked a profound influence in students theology and philosophy, among them Gerhard Krger.
He developed the " demythologization "the New Testament based on the study of literary genres (Formgeschichte) component of the Gospel narratives, arguing that they are not contemporary with Jesus Christ.
Demythologization bultmanienne with more acute than the disenchantment of the world formulated by Max Weber , and currently by Marcel Gauchet , reflects the situation of religion in the same post-modernity. She submits to the methods of history the more rigorous the corpus scriptural New Testament and does not begin until the Christian theology that criticism.

1895-1903 Humanities at Alte Gymnasium of Oldenburg. He was a member of student club Camera Oscura. After the Abitur , he studied theology at Tubingen. He defended his doctoral thesis on Paul of Tarsus in 1910 in Marburg. Two years later, he became Privatdozent, then taught at Breslau in 1921. He returned to teach at Marburg where he attained the emeritus in 1951.
