Summary

History

Royal Armed Forces were created on 14 May 1956 , at the end of the regime of the French protectorate (the Royal Navy was only founded in 1960 ).

They fought in the War of the Sands in 1963, then on the front of the Golan in 1973 (see Yom Kippur War ), helped save the regime of Zaire in 1977 during the wars of Shaba , have distinguished themselves during fighting with the Polisario for control of the Moroccan Sahara , they monitor the Moroccan wall. They also intervened in Somalia in 1993 and Kosovo in 1999.

On 14 July 1999 , the Royal Armed Forces parade on the Champs-Elysees , which was so exceptional for a non-French army at the invitation of the President of the French Republic at the time ( Jacques Chirac ) .

Today, they participate in peacekeeping missions ( MONUC , ONUCI , EUFOR , together with the KFOR ...)

According to some very credible sources as TACOM , Morocco look into acquiring the equipment

  • 200 M1A1 probably version AIM (contract agrees)
  • 20 M88A1 (contract pending)

Population

The Moroccan army has about 196,000 regular soldiers :

  • the Royal Army : 175,000 men (with 2330 tanks with the purchase in court for delivery) ;
  • the Royal Navy : 8000 men (53 warships including frigates, 03 submarines and 4 "type 209") ;
  • the Royal Air Force : 13,000 men (with 150 combat aircraft) .

You can add the Royal Guard with 3,000 men and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police with 22,000 active and 150,000 reserve .
