The Romanesque Revival style was a style popular in the late nineteenth century inspired by the style architectural book of the eleventh and twelfth centuries. The distinguishing features most commonly used in neo-Romanesque buildings were barrel vaults , arched windows and semi-circular bands. Unlike the classical Roman style, this " eclecticism "novel tended to go to arches and windows simplified compared to their historical models.

This style was commonly used in the United States in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century architecture of courthouses and college campuses. In the latter case, the best known example is probably the University of California.
The neo-Romanesque style was also widely used to build churches, but also sometimes for synagogues , whose most notable example is probably the building of the Congregation Emanu-El in New York on Fifth Avenue , dating from 1929.

Far Henry Hobson Richardson is the American architect's largest and most influential who developed his own style based loosely on Roman architecture. United States even called " Richardsonian Romanesque "style derived from examples set by him.

In the UK , the Romanesque Revival style went through what we call today the Victorian architecture. The building of the Natural History Museum of London had to Alfred Waterhouse , built from 1873 to 1880 , will be one of the most significant example.
