Nestor Nicolas Robert Alexander is a Belgian painter, son of a notary , born in Trazegnies 27 February 1817 and died in Saint-Josse-ten-Node 13 December 1890.
Painter of religious subjects, historical and portrait painter.
Biography
Pupil of Franz Joseph Navez at the Academy of Brussels. He travels to improve, along with Jean-Franois Portaels , in Paris , circa 1842-1843 , then in Italy. He stayed in Rome from 1846 to 1849 , .
In 1860 he married Alice Madou, daughter of painter Jean-Baptiste Madou , .
In 1864 he became professor at the Academy of Brussels , it will Delstanche Albert (1870-1941), grand-son of Jean-Baptiste Madou, as a student .
He makes portraits of members of the Royal Family .
He became a member in 1870, then Director in 1888, the Royal Academy of Belgium . He won a Rome Prize Belgian and a street bears his name Trazegnies
