Biography

The Ramhal born in 1707 in the ghetto of Padua in Italy , it will leave only 1734. Violent attacks against his writings while forcing him to abandon his hometown Amsterdam. From their literature, the writings of Ramhal raise a controversy.

The reason for this controversy lies not in the spread of Kabbalah by a young man, but the idea of messianism that emanates from his works.

According to legend Ramhal, then twenty years, received the revelation of a Maggid - a heavenly narrator, in 1727, which dictates the Zohar Tin'yana. Like Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai - the master of the Zohar, the Ramchal needed from the age of twenty years in the barrel Torani.

Yet in 1730, under pressure from the wise, haunted by the idea of "false messiah", the Ramhal agrees to sign a 'confession', on the advice of his teacher, Rabbi Isaiah Bassan Yeshaya. This admission establishes a prohibition on write secrets or revelations in the form of the Aramaic Zohar. The signing of the confession does not appease critics Ramhal, and attacks continue unabated until the beginning of the year 1735 where he is forced to leave Italy for Amsterdam.

He made a stopover in the Bet Midrash of Rabbi Yaacov Papirach in Frankfurt. He hoped that in this city of scholars, it will seek to dispel misconceptions that he is a victim. But it is threatened Herem (anathema), if does not sign a second confession, this time, establishes a prohibition on write books about the Kabbalah, to teach and even to study it before the age of forty.

After signing the Ramhal went to Amsterdam. In this city may finally find a more peaceful life where he composed works related, not directly to the Kabbalah, but the ethics and faith. In 1740 he published a book, the Treaty of Mussar (Jewish ethics): Messilat Yecharim - The path of the righteous.

All communities in the Diaspora without hesitation adopt this structure, which becomes the basic treaty of Jewish ethics. Yet Messilat Ycharim is more than a book of morals. The Ramhal teaches the way of perfection that leads to the ultimate goal: the prophecy. He showed the path of genuine piety, as sought by the true masters of the Torah who aspire to union with God.

In Amsterdam, where he lived until 1743, the Ramhal published a dozen books including the famous Derech Hashem - The Way of God, the true sum of the Jewish faith.

In 1743, the Amsterdam Ramchal left to go to Eretz Israel, Akko (Acre). Three years later, in 1746, 26 Iyar, when he was only 39, he dies of an epidemic. He is buried in Tiberias , next to Rabbi Akiva.

Among his works that some say are Kabbalistic: Derech Hashem , Megillat Setarim, Maamar HaGeoula, Razin Guenizin, Maamar HaIkarim.
