Puf

Presses Universitaires de France, abbreviated by the acronym PUF is an academic publishing house founded in 1921 by college professors. In the 1930s, under the leadership of Paul Angoulvent , they merged with three editors: Felix Alcan (associated with his nephew Rene Lisbon ) (mainly specialist philosophy ), Leroux (publisher of history ) and Rieder ( Literature General). Paul Angoulvent holds the Presidency of the new publishing house at the time, until 1968. His son, Pierre , takes over and performs the same function until 1994.

The PUF has experienced very significant restructuring in 2000 with the abandonment of his bookstore, Place de la Sorbonne , and in particular the opening of capital contribution from private companies (55.5% for civil society composed of Libris principal directors of collections, dictionaries and journals, 16.4% for GMF , 15.1% for the group Flammarion , 8.1% for the group MAAF Assurances, 4.5% for the Bodmer Foundation , 0.4% for former cooperative living or dead).

The collection " Que sais-je? "has long been one of the jewels of this editor. Founded in 1941 by Paul Angoulvent, the idea was to treat the largest number of subjects in a simple format (paperback, 128 pages, printed only in black and white) and at a reduced price. This collection was a huge success, today, about 3,800 titles available, 200 million copies sold and translations in 43 languages.
