The company of the priests of St. Sulpice is a society of apostolic life Catholic founded in 1645 in Paris by Jean-Jacques Olier de Verneuil ( 1608 - 1657 ). Its members are called Sulpicians, leading a common life without vows. As such, they are not considered religious. The company is named in honor of the Pious Sulpice.
The origin of the company is closely linked to the great movement of evangelization and renewal Christianity that developed in France in the seventeenth century. Indeed, the Council of Trent had ordered the creation of seminars (that did not then) for better training of clergy of the Catholic Reformation.
