Organization
FPS has developed a charter that all churches and associations shall undertake to respect. There appears a number of convictions based on the Gospel which, inter alia, recognition as central to the announcement of salvation by grace.
However, each of Churches and member associations of the FPS retains its freedom on its specificity and identity, both theological and practical. Churches retain their own religious affiliation and operation ecclesiological which they are attached. For example, not all have the same understanding of baptism or the same patterns of church organization.
The board of the FPS consists of 25 persons (19 men and 6 women). It meets four times a year. It is chaired by the Rev. Claude Baty, churches evangelical free, since 2007.
History
You can see two important factors in the creation of the Protestant Federation of France:
- The great divide within the ruling protestantime early twentieth century. Sorely felt by some, it provoked a reaction, a need for reconciliation.
- The draft law of separation of church and state , where Protestants feel forgotten because they were not consulted, imposes the need to organize to speak with one voice against the government.
