The first of the FSSP apostolate began in September 1988 under the leadership of Father Denis Coiffet, Superior District. The first communities of believers then created with the arrival of priests in Lyon , Narbonne , Perpignan and Versailles , in response to requests for installation. The new priesthood immediately arouses the enthusiasm in many French regions, while only a dozen priests is assigned to the district of France, the others remaining at seminar Wigratzbad , to provide a solid theological training seminarians and liturgy. The benefactors are generous during the various operations of the fraternity: buying a home in Versailles and Fontainebleau , buy a organ for the church of Saint-Martin-de-Brthencourt or through ad hoc support to enable material life of the seminary. The district of France and quickly accessed for some time in first place at its size and number of priests who work there. New places of apostolate are created to Paris , Strasbourg , Besanon , or St. Stephen. On 29 June 1993 , the first priestly ordination is conferred in a church served by the fraternity, as the Tridentine rite , the cardinal Decourtray , archbishop of Lyon. The three deacons French newly ordained are immediately affected by France. The Letter to friends and benefactors, regular feature of priestly ministry in the district, has been published since 1994. It is due to Father Denis The Pivain, new supervisor district since July 1994. That same year, nine new priests , including seven French, are ordered to Wigratzbad after being fully trained. The district is still developing at Nantes , Epinal , Prigueux and Le Mans.
