Pillars Of Islam

The pillars of Islam are the essential duties that all Muslims must follow. The most notable and respected are five in number. These duties are not explicitly outlined in the Koran as are the Ten Commandments in the Bible , but reported in a hadith prophetic: "Islam is built on five pillars "(Narrated by Al-Bukhari and Muslim). The concept has been adopted by all branches of Islam , with exceptions such as Kharijites who reject Sunni

Together the six articles of faith (` aqeedah ), the five pillars of Islam are five important obligations to be met by any responsible person (after puberty, of sound mind and having heard the call of Islam ).

  • The Shahadah is the statement of faith in the oneness of God and the prophecy of Muhammad : it is the most important.
  • The five daily prayers or prayer (As-salaat) can be made anywhere in the direction of the Kaaba
  • The tax year : the zakat (Azz-zakaat) is alms to the poor in the proportions prescribed in accordance with its capabilities.
  • The fasting month of Ramadan : the Sawm (As-Siyam) from sunrise to sunset, fasting is prescribed.
  • The pilgrimage to Mecca : The Hajj (Al Hajj) at least once in their life if the believer or the believer has the resources and physical materials.

Shiism

The Twelver

The Twelver Shiites believe in a doctrine, including the five pillars and others, but regard them differently.

The five articles of faith are the Roots of Religion ( ), which must be added the branches of religion similar to the Sunni pillars:

  1. Shahadah
  2. Salat - ( Persian : Namaaz)
  3. Zakat
  4. fasting month of Ramadan
  5. Hajj
  6. Khums , the fifth levy on each income that does not have a job or an inheritance (donations, offerings rewards, prizes ...)
  7. Jihad ("struggle"). Jihad is large or internal struggles, the efforts must face the demons soul. Jihad little or external, are fighting or believing that efforts should be towards the environment and various aspects of his life.
  8. Amr-Bil-Ma'ruf or encourage what is good
  9. Nahi-Anil-Munkar or prevent what is bad
  10. Alwillaya , love the Ahl al-Bayt (family of Prophet) and his successors

The Ismailis

Ismailis consider four of the five pillars of Sunni and add "love and devotion" to the imams , to Muhammad and to God, purity The Druze

The Druze reject sharia and obligations. They do not recognize the obligation of prayer , and fasting month of Ramadan is different from other Muslims. They also have an allegiance to their Imam walaaya.
