Phalsbourg (in German is a common French , located in the department of Moselle and the Region Lorraine.

Population of about 4600 inhabitants, the town was fortified by Vauban. She also serves as a framework for summer festival Erckmann Chatrian. The city is part of the Regional Park of Vosges du Nord and the transboundary biosphere reserve Vosges du Nord-Palatinate Forest.

City Phalsbourg is created by the Count Palatine Jean-Georges Veldenz , Protestant prince, with the dowry of his wife Anna Maria, daughter of Swedish King Gustav I Vasa. The foundation was motivated by the reception of reformed , while events in the very Catholic duchy of Lorraine. Count Palatine had the castle of his Einhartzhausen County Petite Pierre , enclosed in Lorraine. He is drawing near in terms of a new town , in checkerboard , then symbol of order and modernity. It grants franchises to new residents who would populate the city, whose establishment has been recognized 27 September 1570 by Emperor Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor. The city was renamed Pfalzburger, meaning Pfalz Palatinate and Burg fortress.

However, lack of money, the city was ceded to the Duke of Lorraine from 1590 and the attempted expulsion of the Protestants are increasing, not without encountering fierce resistance from the population.

Count Palatine George Gustavus, heir of George John, founds Lixheim in 1608, which will suffer the same fate.

With Lixheim, Phalsbourg form a short-lived principality from 1629 to 1660, the benefit of Henriette de Lorraine , sister of Duke Charles IV of Lorraine and her successive husbands.

Lorraine was occupied almost continuously by the French troops from 1634 to 1697, the fortifications are revised and supplemented by Vauban.

The city suffered three seats (1814-1815-1870) The "Incubator Braves. 22 August 1919, President Raymond Poincare comes to Phalsbourg awarded the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honor for his heroism during the siege of 1870.

In 1953, the USAF began construction of what will be the airbase Phalsbourg-Bourscheid. The database will be used by the Americans until 1967, when the withdrawal of France from the integrated command of NATO. Fame 's Camp Horie , the base hosts the 1st Regiment of helicopter gunships.

The city gave birth to marshal Mouton , Count de Lobau. She is also the venue of the meeting between the two authors regionalist Erckmann Emile and Alexandre Chatrian.

  • Emile Erckmann Phalsbourg was born May 21, 1822 and died in Luneville March 14, 1899. His friend Alexander Chatrian (Abreschviller born December 18, 1826 and died in Villemomble September 3, 1890) are also studied. Erckmann Chatrian is the name under which signed two French writers: Emile and Alexandre Erckmann Chatrian.
